CONCORD, NH – Statement from Attorney General Foster on Investigation of ExxonMobil by Several Attorneys General released April 21, 2016:
“Climate change poses a threat to New Hampshire’s way of life, its economy, and its environment. In the fall of last year, the New Hampshire Office of the Attorney General became aware of allegations that ExxonMobil concealed information related to the impacts of fossil fuels on climate change. Since that time, the Office has been focused on bringing another case against ExxonMobil related to groundwater contamination to fruition.
“Nevertheless, during that time, we also participated in every relevant lawsuit related to climate change and began engaging in discussions with those close to these new allegations. This process is continuing. Although the financial challenges facing all state agencies prevented us from attending a recent meeting of Attorneys Generals in Manhattan concerning climate change, we are and have been coordinating with various Attorneys General throughout the nation who are examining climate change issues.
“We hope to continue to do so in a responsible and deliberate manner with the continued support and cooperation of the public, the Governor, and the Legislature.”
