CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) is pleased to announce that the “Name a Plow” contest is back for its second year. The contest is now open and will accept entries through Friday, December 12, 2025.
Last year, the initiative captured the imagination of thousands of New Hampshire residents, with more than 900 submissions from individuals, classrooms, and local businesses. Beyond being a fun community activity, the contest highlights the critical role NHDOT’s winter maintenance teams play in keeping state highways safe and passable during winter.
“Each winter, New Hampshire residents and travelers rely on NHDOT to maintain safe and accessible roadways. From families traveling across the state to truck drivers delivering essential goods, our road users count on us to keep the transportation network moving efficiently and safely.” stated Commissioner William Cass.
To enter, visit the NHDOT homepage and click on the Name a Plow Contest graphic, which links to the online entry form. Participants may submit multiple entries.
After the contest closes in mid-December, NHDOT staff will select a group of finalists. These names will then be put to a public vote, which will determine the seven winning names, one for each of the six NHDOT Districts and the Bureau of Turnpikes. The official snowplow names will be announced in mid-January 2026.
“While we cannot predict the winter weather, all of us can control how we prepare and respond.” Cass added. “The ‘Name a Plow’ contest is an opportunity to engage the traveling public, highlighting the resources available to help them make safe travel decisions, and increase awareness of NHDOT’s winter operations.”
