November opioid overdose response numbers reinforce downward trend

November’s opioid OD response numbers were notable once again by setting another record low for the second month in a row. That virtually assures that 2025 will have the lowest annual number of suspected opioid ODs in a decade in both Nashua and Manchester.

  • The combined two city total of 31 set another new low in the total number of suspected opioid ODs in one month – even lower than last month’s record low of 34.
  • AMR medics responded to a total of 31 suspected opioid ODs in Nashua and Manchester during November 2025. 24 occurred in Manchester and 7 occurred in Nashua.
  • 4 of the November suspected opioid ODs were suspected opioid OD deaths.  2 of the suspected deaths occurred in Manchester and 2 occurred in Nashua.
  • The 31 suspected opioid ODs were well below the rolling 12-month average of 44. The fatality percentage was 13% for the month, which was just slightly above the rolling 12-month average of 12%.
  • Nashua continues to be trending towards a record low overall suspected opioid OD annual pace and is currently 13% below last year for total suspected opioid ODs. Nashua is currently 26% higher in suspected opioid deaths for this year compared to 2024.

MANCHESTER NOVEMBER 2025

  • Suspected opioid ODs – 24
  • Suspected fatal opioid ODs – 2
  • 8% of the suspected opioid ODs in Manchester were fatal in November.

NASHUA NOVEMBER 2025

·        Suspected opioid ODs – 7

·        Suspected fatal opioid ODs – 2

·        29% of the suspected opioid ODs in Nashua were fatal in November.

November suspected opioid ODs continued to be well below recent averages and are showing a consistent & steady decline. Please keep in mind that due to the nature of the opioid epidemic and its clear history of unpredictability, it is always possible that the trend of lower numbers could quickly change. Overall, the trend continues in the right direction. With Narcan now widely available it is likely that some opioid overdoses are now occurring without 9-1-1 intervention and are not being reported due to rapid reversal but there is now clear statistical progress in reducing suspected opioid overdoses.

In NH, anyone can seek substance use disorder treatment by accessing the NH Doorway program 24/7. To access the NH Doorway program, call 2-1-1 at any time of the day or night, or visit www.thedoorway.nh.gov. If you believe someone is overdosing call 9-1-1 immediately.

To help prevent death, it is critical that people who use illicit drugs do not use them alone and have Narcan readily available. Narcan is available throughout New Hampshire at most pharmacies. It is available free of charge from local public health departments & any NH Doorway location. It is completely safe and easy to administer. Narcan is available ‘over the counter’, meaning it is available without a prescription to anyone seeking it.
