Registration is now open for On Tap for CASA, a 10-hour barstool marathon at New England’s Tap House Grille in Hooksett.
Since its debut in 2017, this unique event has raised more than $250,000 for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of New Hampshire, supporting critical work on behalf of children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
On March 8, teams of 5-10 will engage in friendly competition to be crowned the top fundraising team and/or the winner of the day’s games. Activities include the ever-popular stein-hoist challenge, puzzles, ugly sweater competition, bingo and more. Participating teams pledge to occupy their barstool for the entire 10 hours, and to raise a minimum of $1,200. Each team has its own fundraising page, and each team member can set an individual page and goal.
Established in 1989, CASA of NH is a statewide nonprofit that recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers to provide best-interests advocacy in the courts for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. A CASA of NH volunteer advocate is a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem. When an advocate accepts a case, it is their job to get to know a child (or sibling group) and all the important adults in that child’s life in order to make recommendations to the court about what is in the child’s best interests.
The children CASA serves are often removed from their homes and all they’ve ever known. While many other adults may come and go from a child’s life during such an uncertain and frightening time, a CASA volunteer is a consistent presence in a child’s life.
Last year, 663 incredible volunteers collectively accepted 971 cases, served 1,538 children, had 13,492 visits with children, drove 682,048 miles and donated 92,028 hours.
In Manchester alone, CASA of NH volunteers advocated for 310 children in 197 cases. In addition to ongoing statewide recruitment efforts, CASA of NH is currently seeking more volunteers from the Manchester area.
