MANCHESTER, NH – More snow than expected was bad enough for Thursday morning commuters, but a pair of rollover accidents created more havoc for everyone, according to NH State Police.
The first accident happened at about 4:15 a.m. on February 19 when State Police Trooper Ryan Hajjar came upon a jackknifed tractor-trailer off the right side of the road just south of mile marker 13.6 in the southbound lane of the F.E. Everett Turnpike, in Merrimack.
The driver, Justin Daka, 67, of Nashua, told police he was traveling in the right lane when he lost control due to road conditions.
Trooper Hajjar determined that the cause of this crash was due to Daka traveling too fast for the existing conditions, which caused the truck to jackknife and crash into the right side of the highway.
Daka was not injured during the accident. His truck was towed from the scene.
Daka was cited for speeding (too fast for existing road conditions) and for a highway markings unbroken line violation.
Due to the accident, the Everett Turnpike was restricted to one lane for approximately two hours while the scene was cleared and treated.
The second accident happened at about 7:15 a.m. when State Police and Merrimack fire crews dispatched to a reported rollover crash on Everett just south of the Exit 11 on ramp in Merrimack.
Sean Perkins, 20, of Merrimack told police he was looking to his left as he attempted to merge onto the highway when he drifted into a snowbank. His truck rolled over and came to rest upside down in the travel lane.
Trooper Stefan Czyzowski investigated the crash and determined that the cause of this crash was due to Perkins failing to maintain his proper lane of travel and maintain control of his vehicle. Perkins was not injured during the accident and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
Following that crash, the Everett Turnpike was restricted to one lane for approximately one hour while the scene was cleared and treated.
