MANCHESTER, N.H. – Following Wednesday’s recount, Ed Sapienza has officially defeated Cristina Goodwin in the race to become Ward 8’s next representative on the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

Following the recount, Sapienza’s victory was officially certified with by a tally of 857-831. Coming into Wednesday, the count stood at 855 votes for Sapienza and 831 for Goodwin.

Goodwin said she owed it to her supporters to get another look and was pleased that the process served as proof that the new machines at the city’s polling places worked and this provided proof that Manchester has free and fair elections.
