Womenโs Soccer
It was a nail biter, but a win is a win.
Sophomore Liz Shaievitz (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored with just five seconds left in regulation to give the Hawks a 2-1 win against the University of New Haven on Tuesday.
Saint Anselm trailed through the contestโs first 84 minutes before junior Nicole White (Danvers, Mass.) stole the ball deep in enemy territory and send a low driven shot into the net to tie things up.
The Hawks outshot New Haven 21-8 and that advantage helped make the difference as Shaievitz tapped in her final shot into the right corner of the goal.
The Hawks (4-1-2, 1-1-1) return to Melucci Field on Saturday, Sept. 28 as they host Le Moyne at 12 p.m.
Menโs Soccer
The men couldnโt duplicate that magic on Wednesday, as Saint Anselm fell to Stonehill, 2-1.
Freshman Quenten McDonough (Bedford, N.H.) scored his first collegiate goal in the final ten minutes of the game to prevent a Stonehill clean sheet.
Although they couldnโt duplicate the ladiesโ luck, they certainly copied their offensive pressure, outshooting Stonehill, 19-8 with seven shots on target.
Saint Anselm (4-1-0, 0-1-0) returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 28, taking on New Haven at home with a 3 p.m. start time.
Field Hockey
Saint Anselm remains as the only NCAA Division II team not to concede a goal this season, adding a 4-0 win on Wednesday over Saint Michaelโs College on Wednesday.
The Hawks outshot Saint Michaelโs, 24-2, with the Hawks grabbing goals from junior Ericka Meissner (Falmouth, Mass.), sophomore Andrea McNeil (Canton, Mass.), junior Kendall Clifford (South Easton, Mass.) and sophomore Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.)
