MANCHESTER, NH – Just a short trip up I-293 separates these teams, and the separation wasn’t quite as close on the court Wednesday night as Hawks of Saint Anselm College defeated the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen, 76-63 in men’s basketball action.
The two teams traded leads in the first half, with Saint Anselm bringing a six-point lead into the half.
That was their largest lead up to that point, but the Penmen hung around, trading baskets with the Hawks until the visitors slowly began to pull away, opening up a lead that grew to nine at one stretch.
Saint Anselm’s Tim Guers led all players with 28 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. He was followed closely by Chris Paul with 18 and Gustav Shur-Jessen with 17.
Shawn Montague led the way for Southern New Hampshire with 16 points.
With the win, the Hawks climb to 5-0 on the year while Southern New Hampshire falls to 4-3.
Both teams return to the court on Saturday, with the Penmen visiting Assumption and Saint Anselm’s hosting Merrimack College. First tip for the games is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
