PORTLAND, Maine – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats left Portland on Wednesday with a doubleheader split, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs 7-1 before losing to them 3-2.
In the first game, Jon Harris made his longest appearance of 2019, allowing just three hits over five of the contest’s seven innings.
He was on the hook for Portland’s only run, a solo homer by Joey Curletta, but New Hampshire’s five-run sixth provided New Hampshire with more than enough cushion to finish with a win.
Forrest Wall ended with three RBI and a pair of walks, Josh Palacios ended 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Santiago Espinal also had an RBI off a double.
Harris climbed to 2-1 in Eastern League play while Portland starter Tanner Houck fell to 7-5.
In the second game, New Hampshire came just short of tying things up, as Kevin Smith’s two-out RBI single brought the game back within a run in the sixth.
Portland hurler Eduard Brazado managed to escape the inning without any further damage and Adam Lau retired the side in the seventh for his fifth save of the year.
This marked Brazado’s first Eastern League win of the season while Willy Ortiz fell to 2-4 after allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk during his four-inning performance.
On Thursday, the Fisher Cats will send Yennsy Diaz (6-5, 3.62 ERA) to the mound against Trenton’s Garrett Whitlock (3-2, 3.03 ERA).
