GOFFSTOWN, NH – Officials have recovered the body of a man reported missing late Thursday night after he failed to return from riding his ATV.
The search for the 49-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released by authorities, began at about 10:30 p.m. on March 4 when he failed to return home after being out on his four-wheeler.ย The man had gone out at about 4 p.m. and was expected to return by 9 p.m. Family contacted Goffstown police and fire who contacted NH Fish & Game.
Fish and Game Lt. Adam Cheney said a search team spent time looking on trails and were out searching most of the night without any luck. At aboutย 3 a.m. they located a hole in the ice on the river with a helmet on the ice. At that point, a member of Goffstown Fire Department spotted what looked like a rim to an ATV below the service. A dive team went into the river and recovered the body Friday morning.
Cheney reminded the public that with fluctuating temperatures of late, frozen surfaces are no longer safe for recreation.
