News on the arts, music, dining, restaurants and all things that make our city a cultural mecca on the rise.
There’s plenty to do this weekend before the holidays are in full swing!
I love the term oxymoron. I guess it’s the second part of the word that I find amusing. Here are a few examples: jumbo shrimp, quality assurance, unconditional guarantee, bipartisan legislation, and extra legroom. The last one is high on my list.
Proceeds will go toward supporting NH Writers Project mission, which is to foster good writing and support authors around New Hampshire.
Within the music realm, supergroups can come together in a few different ways. The members can each be a savant when it comes to playing their chosen instrument, it can be a combination of two prior bands or it can be a collective of multi-instrumentalists. Fantastic Cat leans toward the latter with Brian Dunne, Anthony D’Amato, Mike Montali and Don Dilego each being respected musicians in their own right.
Some people say I took a year’s vacation, but I know that I took a year to live life the way it’s supposed to be lived. A “real life” filled with reciprocity, balance, and (un-wired) connection.
Diwali is the Indian festival of lights. The holiday celebrates the triumph of good over evil and this year it is celebrated today, November 12, 2023. A major focus of Diwali is family as they gather to eat special foods and sweets, and light decorative oil lamps.
Rehearsal Notes and a couple of back-of-the-house stories that preceded the public performance. The photos were all taken during rehearsal at the Stockbridge Theatre, Derry, NH.
Through his immense skills on keyboard and his avant-garde approach to music, John Medeski has been a central figure in the world of jazz for over 30 years. His repertoire is also fairly diverse with the funk fusion he’s created with drummer Billy Martin and bassist Chris Wood as Medeski, Martin & Wood as well as the collaborations he’s done with the likes of bluegrass icon Béla Fleck, guitar savants John Scofield and Marc Ribot and sax wizard John Zorn.
There’s plenty to do this weekend and especially some wonderful local craft fairs so you can get a head start on your holiday shopping!
Alongside this unique exhibition, the collective is taking a heartfelt step towards supporting the community. This year, Mosaic Art Collective is launching an “Art Supply Donation Drive” for the Webster House, an organization dedicated to helping youth in New Hampshire who are temporarily unable to reside in their homes.
Throughout history, posters have played a critical role in conveying information. They can advertise products, announce events, publicize instructions, and urge action. Some are utilitarian in design, while others can be considered works of art.
This time, Henniker Brewing Company, a scant 26 miles from Manchester. I always forget how close it actually is. Maybe it’s the dramatic difference between downtown Manchester, largest city in New England north of Boston, compared with downtown Henniker, which could easily be Stars Hollow. (Is my inner Gilmore Girl showing?) Or maybe it’s the gradually changing countryside, which goes from city to suburbs to widely spaced homes to farmland to wooded stony hillsides. In any case, the transformation provided by those 26 miles is always enjoyable.
Exhibition opens Nov. 3 with an artists’ reception Nov. 9 at French Hall in Manchester.
So much going on in the world of entertainment. Go find your bliss.
November is already here! Take a look at the list below to give you something to do everyday this weekend.
