Today, the We Are One festival is the evolution of what began decades ago, which is a celebration of the cultures and countries that gave birth to all of us. Through music, food and cultural affirmation, we can learn that our differences are what make us who we are, but it is our humanity that makes us one community.

There were plenty of repeat customers at Mahrajan 2021, the annual celebration hosted by Our Lady of the Cedars Melkite Church on Mitchell Street in celebration of Middle Eastern culture. Regulars like Becky Saad, for one, who was there to commune with the fine food and good friends under one of the big tents on Saturday. Then she doubled down,  with a brown to-do bag of Kibbee (Lebanese meatloaf), Baklawa (Lebanese version of the sweet walnut and phyllo-dough dessert) and Warak Arish (stuffed grape leaves).

Dr. Nathalie Ahyi-Amendah, formerly coordinator of the New Hampshire Health & Equity Partnership which functions under the umbrella of Foundation for Healthy Communities was at the Victory Women mother-daughter event. She presented on a panel with the Reverend Reneé Rouse, Northwood Congregational Church, Hulda Suazo, Granite State Organizing Project, and Jennifer Katuma, high school student.  They celebrated mothers, shared their losses they experienced in the pandemic, and cheered the elders on. “Hang out with people who mean the world to you,” Katuma said.

The first of two reviews will be of Abe & Louie’s, 793 Boylston St. in Boston and has been in existence for 21 years.  They have both outdoor and indoor seating, but you can only make a reservation for indoor seating.  Our party sat inside and had a lovely round table so we could all talk and no one was left out.  Our server was Janice and, as expected, the service was extraordinary and our party wanted for nothing.
