The North Chestnut Street Sewer Separation Project will begin its 2015 construction season on Laurel Street and Merrimack Street South Back beginning Jan. 5, 2015. ย Initial construction will be on side streets between Union and Pine.ย This winter work will be dependent on weather.ย If the weather cooperates, ย Work Area 5 should be completed in January; Work Area 6 in February; and Pine Street in March.

Last year the City of Manchesterโs Environmental Protection Division awarded a $7.8 million contractย to RD Edmunds & Sons, Inc., a general contractor from Franklin, NH, to construct the North Chestnut
Street Sewer Separation Project. The construction oversight for the City is being performed by CDMย Smith, Inc., a national engineering firm with a local office in Manchester. This project is part of thย cityโs ongoing combined sewer overflow abatement program to improve Merrimack River water qualityย and the cityโs environmental infrastructure. This two-year construction project consists of majorย underground utility work and road reconstruction including over 20,000 linear feet of new drain, sewer,ย water, and gas utilities.
Beginning the week of January 5 construction will start on both Laurel Street and Merrimack Street South Back between Union and Pine Streets to install new drainage pipe in the streets. Theseย streets are part of Workย Area 5, as shown on the General Plan pictured above. Access to both streetsย will be limited to local traffic only. To safely complete this work, no parking will be allowed onย either street during work hours, which are noted below. Police details will be on hand to assistย motorists through and around the work zone.
The contractor is scheduled to complete work in Work Area 5 in January, Work Area 6 in February, and Pine Streetย in March. Periodic construction updates will be distributed as work progresses. Work hours on the project will be M-F, 7ย a.m. toย 5 p.m.
