Students of Manchester, New Hampshire can celebrate because Snow Day 2.0 has been announced! This is the largest amount of snow the United States has seen in years, affecting states from New Mexico to Maine. Midwestern states like Minnesota and Michigan, and northeastern states like those in New England are used to low temperatures and snowy winters.
However, southern states like Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Kentucky are struggling through the storm. While New Englanders might not feel happy in their homes during the summer due to humidity and older houses that arenโt properly equipped to deal with the heat, we certainly have an advantage during this type of weather. Lucky for us we have insulated homes, slanted roofs, and plows. In the south, they are struggling โ there are reports of a 16-year-old who died due to a sledding accident and many other reports of those who have died due to hypothermia. Washington, D.C., declared a state of emergency.
Here in Manchester weโve *so far* received a little over 14 inches, and Nashua reportedly received over 18 inches. Many are experiencing power outages and internet issues. Roads are icy, slippery, and unsafe for driving so itโs important people stay home and stay warm!ย
For those who have to venture outside for shoveling and brushing off their cars, be sure to bundle up with many layers! Jackets, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, all the essentials! For people who have younger siblings or little kids who want to play in the winter wonderland, make sure they bundle up too and donโt sink too far into the piles! While this snow isnโt great for building snowmen, forts, and snowballs for snowball fights, itโs perfect for snow angels and wading through. Instead of the dense, icy snow New Englanders are used to, this is much more powdery and light. However it is pretty cold outside with temperatures in the teens and single-digits, and the roads are still terrible.
If you are staying inside this snow day (as recommended) there are still many things you can do! Bundle up and watch a movie, play a board game with family, bake something like warm chocolate chip cookies, meditate with yoga, read a book, and more! For those who havenโt watched the famous “Stranger Things,” you can catch up on episodes and learn why people love the show! Itโs filled with mystery, eeriness, sci-fi, cliffhangers, and jumpscares. You might want to watch this with a friend or family member if youโre not a fan of jumpscares!
If you have a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo recently released the 3.0 update. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a fun and relaxing video game, where players live on an island with animal characters. Players can decorate their home, build furniture, and decorate the island as well. Players can now decorate hotel rooms in the new hotel, utilize new furniture to spruce up their islands and homes, and create new dream islands in the dream realm.ย
However you plan to spend the second snow day, be sure to stay warm, safe, and have fun!
