NASHUA, NH – Symphony New Hampshire has appointed Jude Morris as Principal Trombone. Currently pursuing his master’s degree at Yale School of Music, Morris secures his first professional position with Symphony New Hampshire.
The selection process culminated in a blind audition that left a lasting impression on the Symphony New Hampshire (SNH) team.
“He nailed the blind audition. It was apparent from the first note that whoever was behind that screen was the one we wanted. It’s an elegant coincidence that his inaugural performance as principal is the January 13 Brass to the Max concert,” said SNH Executive Director Deanna Hoying.
Attaining a principal position straight out of college is a rare accomplishment. The unanimous approval from the selection committee underscores Morris’s exceptional talent. SNH recognizes the extraordinary quality of Morris’s performance and is confident in his ability to enhance the orchestra’s musical prowess.
Morris is currently under the tutelage of Scott Hartman at the Yale School of Music. He earned his Bachelor of Music at the Manhattan School, studying with Dr. Per Brevig. Morris distinguished himself as a concerto soloist in Martin’s Concerto for Seven Winds during his time at Manhattan School. Notably, he opened the Yale Philharmonia’s season as principal on Mahler’s Third Symphony, conducted by Peter Oundjian. Beyond his musical pursuits, Morris is a published and awarded photographer and an avid collector of film cameras.
Reflecting on his achievement, Morris said, “I felt I had done well at the audition, but you never know what the competition is like. I was ecstatic when I got the call.”
