FUKUOKA, JAPAN – After Day 11 and 12 of November’s Grand Sumo Tournament, Takakeisho still holds a narrow lead in the yusho race.
Now at 11-1, the komusubi put up a pair of slightly less overwhelming victories over the past two days against Hokutofuji and Tochiozan respectively, focusing more on quick footwork than the overwhelming thrusting attacks he used to get quick victories against opponents earlier in the week.
The final two-loss rikishi is Takayasu, an ozeki that defeated Takakeisho in September and lost to him in July.
Behind Takayasu, Onosho, Daiesho, Okinoumi and Aoiyama are still in the yusho hunt at 9-3 and Shohozan is still alive at 8-4, although he would need a playoff to win the tournament at this point.
Also at 8-4, Goeido announced his withdrawal from rest of the tournament due to injury.
