Mount Washington received its first inch of snow

The first inch of snow on Mount Washington usually appears in early to mid-October. According to historical data from the Mount Washington Observatory, snow can fall as early as late September, but the first measurable inch often arrives by the second week of October. This year, however, the summit saw its first inch of snow on the night of October 20โ€“21, which was later than usual. Typically, the average snowfall for October is around 19 inches.


Weather Patterns We’re Watching

Next week for Halloween on Friday, the day will start with some rain, but the evening will be dry and cool for trick-or-treaters, with temperatures in the low 50s.

Elevations for summits above 4,000 feet in Northern New Hampshire today: Summits drifting in and out of the clouds, with a chance of rain and snow showers. Highs will reach the upper 30s, accompanied by southwest winds at 15 to 25 mph, gusting up to 45 mph. There’s a 50 percent chance of precipitation, and wind chill values may drop as low as 8 degrees above zero.

Elevations between 2,500 and 4,000 feet in Northern New Hampshire today: Summits occasionally shrouded in clouds, with a chance of rain showers. Highs reaching the mid-40s, accompanied by southwest winds at 10 to 15 mph, gusting up to 30 mph. The chance of rain is 50 percent.
