MANCHESTER, NH — Thursday morning is expected to bring a blizzard to Manchester, but the Trinity Pioneers brought a blizzard of goals a few hours in advance.

Trinity defeated Memorial 6-1 at JFK Coliseum on Wednesday afternoon in boys’ hockey action, earning Queen City bragging rights and their second win in a row.

The Pioneers scored five of their goals early in each period, beginning with Nathan Arcand and Brandon Boss in the first, followed by Eric Favreau and Cam Laventure in the second and James Kosiarski in the third.

Trinity’s other goal came with just under two minutes left in the second period as Aidan Ross casually wristed home a shot past Memorial goaltender Chuck Degust.

That goal from Ross came shortly after a flurry of pressure from the Crusaders, ending a string of 10 unanswered Memorial shots stretching over most of the second period.

The Crusaders grabbed their only goal during that rally, a Kenny McIntyre deflection off a Brandon Murphy blue line blast.

While Trinity goaltender Ethan Messner wouldn’t record the shutout due to that one moment, he would end the contest with 23 saves.

Trinity hits the ice again against Central/West next Wednesday while Trinity will host Londonderry on Saturday at JFK.

Here are some other recent highlights from Manchester’s high school athletic programs.

Central

The Little Green girls’ basketball team was just seconds away from a victory against Memorial in holiday tournament play, but they climbed to 4-1 on the regular season with a 36-29 Tuesday win against Dover.

On the boys’ side, Central also recorded a win against Dover, 68-63.

Although the boys’ basketball fell to Portsmouth on Tuesday, the girls’ basketball team remains undefeated, remaining at 4-0 after weather postponed their pre-Christmas matchup against Winnacunnet.

The girls are in action next on Friday when they host Alvirne.

West

The Blue Knights continue to struggle on the hardwood, with the girls’ basketball team still seeking its first win and boys’ basketball team dropping their last two regular season contests against Milford and Kingswood as well as all of their games at the Queen City Classic.

The boys host Hanover on Friday while the girls host Portsmouth on Tuesday.

Trinity

It appears that Trinity may have a claim to the best Manchester high school hockey teams in both genders.

The girls’ Trinity/West/Bishop Brady co-op team recorded a thorough 20-0 victory against ConVal-Conant before heading into the Christmas break, returning on Tuesday with a 7-5 victory over Oyster River/Portsmouth.

The Giant Pioneers hit the ice next against Central on Tuesday.

Derryfield

Tori Sipes won the individual all-around title in a multi-school meet at Pinkerton late last week.

Among the ten gymnasts in attendance, Sipes had the best scores on the parallel bars and in the floor exercise, coming in third on the vault and balance beam events.
