MANCHESTER, NH โ Two men were arrested for evading police and failing to stop at a work site roadblock Feb. 18.

David Chavez, 23, and Marcos Lopez, 17, both of Manchester, were charged with resisting arrest based on the following police narrative:
At about 6:20 p.m. Manchester Police Sgt. Richard Brown attempted to stop a vehicle on in the area of Beech and Hanover streets, which was blocked off due to a gas leak.
Aย 1995 Honda Accord operated by Chavez allegedly failed to obey the officer and continued driving south on Beech Street at Hanover Street. Officer Derek Feather redirected the operator, but he insteadย turned around on Beech Street, in the wrong direction of travel, before heading north toward Amherst Street.

Sgt. Brown reported that the Honda came close toย striking several parked cars while fleeing the area, so he approached the vehicle on foot and told the operator to stop. It appeared as if the driver was complying,ย but instead Chavez stopped long enough for Lopez toย flee from the passengerโs side of the vehicle. Chavezย allegedly refused to stop, revved the car’s engine and drove toward Sgt. Brown.
Sgt. Brown chased Lopez on foot andย apprehended him a short distance from the vehicl
Chavez was pulled over byย Officer Feather shortly after Lopez was taken into custody. Officer Feather approached the Honda which was stopped in the area ofย Beech and Amherst streets and ordered Chavez from the vehicle. Police say Chavez allegedly refused to exit the vehicle, and maintained a tight grip on the steering wheel prior to reaching under his seat. Officer Featherย pulled Chavez from the carย and placed him into handcuffs. Police described Chavez asย “non-compliant” throughout the process, which resulted in the additional charge ofย disobeying a police officerย for Chavez.
Both Chavez and Lopez appeared in District Court on Feb. 19.
