MANCHESTER, NH — As part of an effort to raise awareness of wellness opportunities for those in wheel chairs, Wheelchair Health in Motion (WHIM) and the YMCA of Downtown Manchester are proud to host a special event on Wednesday, May 11 at the YMCA, from 10:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.

“This event is free and open to all WHIM participants, peer leaders and individuals joining the WHIM program,” said Carol Conforti-Adams, Executive Director of WHIM.  “The program will include: educational sessions on health maintenance, stress management, meditation and behavioral change.  We will also host a group exercise session and provide lunch.”

Wheelchair Health In Motion (WHIM) is a peer-driven program that provides the tools for increasing quality of life and promoting wellness in individuals living with a physical disability through innovative chair exercise and peer support within their own community. WHIM is focused on helping individuals who use a wheelchair for mobility and those with decreased mobility gain access to health promoting activities and information that will encourage opportunities to enhance quality of life through improved mental and physical health status.

WHIM is provided free of charge and one does not need to be a member of the YMCA to participate.

“We’re pleased to partner with our friends at WHIM for this event,” said Michele Sheppard, Chief Operating Officer at The Granite YMCA.  “It’s a great opportunity to learn more about their wonderful work.”

While the event is free, pre-registration is required.  To sign up or for more information, please contact Ms. Conforti – Adams at (603)938-2562 or via email at whim4wellness@gmail.com
