2 people injured after jumping from 3rd-floor to escape 3-alarm blaze on Sullivan Street

MANCHESTER, NH โ€“  Two people were critically injured after jumping from a third-floor window to escape a fire at a Sullivan Street apartment Friday night.

According to Battalion Chief Robert Plantier, at 7:41 p.m., companies responded to a reported building fire at 26  Sullivan Street. Engine & Truck 6 from the Amory Street Station were the first to arrive at 7:43 p.m. and reported heavy fire conditions showing from the second and third floors of a 4-story residential  multiple dwelling.

The Captain of Truck 6 requested a second alarm at 7:44 p.m., and crews immediately advanced hose lines to confine the fire and to protect ongoing rescue operations.  Due to the rapidly escalating fire conditions, Plantier requested a third alarm at 7:48 p.m., bringing additional apparatus and all available Manchester firefighters to the scene.

Firefighters conducted coordinated interior fire attack operations while simultaneously  performing search and rescue efforts. During the operation, crews were forced out of sections of the building due to fire conditions and partial collapses.

The under control was announced at 10:09 p.m. with extensive overhaul operations continuing well into the night. The building was searched and cleared with an โ€œall clearโ€ declared, and a โ€œloss stoppedโ€ was announced at 11:19 p.m.

This 3-alarm blaze brought all Manchester resources to the scene and called for the  surrounding communities of Merrimack, Bedford, Hooksett, Goffstown, Londonderry, Derry,  Auburn, Litchfield, Allenstown, Hudson, Salem, Concord, and Nashua into the city for fire and EMS coverage.

AMR routed additional EMS units for ALS coverage during the incident. 

Two residents were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries, both victims had to jump from the third floor of the building to escape the flames. It is unknown at this time the details of  their injuries.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Manchester Fire Marshall and the  Fire Prevention Division.
