MANCHESTER, NH – For more than 70 years, the Greater Manchester Chamber’s Citizen of the Year Celebration has recognized individuals whose extraordinary vision, civic pride, and service have helped shape the future of our community.
The Greater Manchester Chamber is honored to announce Robert Singer as our next Citizen of the Year. A lifelong Manchester resident, respected business leader, and deeply committed philanthropist, Robert will be celebrated at the Citizen of the Year Celebration on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Downtown, presented by Elliot Health System.
Singer’s impact on Manchester spans more than five decades of leadership, generosity, and service. As a second-generation leader of Merchants Automotive Group, he helped transform the company into one of the nation’s top fleet management providers, while maintaining the Singer family’s long-standing tradition of community giving through initiatives such as the Gail Singer Memorial Blood Drive, the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign, and the Union Leader Santa Fund.
Following his retirement from Merchants, Singer has focused even more of his time and resources on strengthening Manchester’s institutions. After losing his son, Jordan, he and his family created Jordan’s Dream Fund, the first national program of its kind supporting young sarcoma patients with travel and lodging expenses required for life-saving clinical trials. His transformational gifts to Elliot Hospital, including support for the Solinsky Center for Cancer Care and the Elliot Emergency Department, earned him the Davison Award for Philanthropy in 2023.
Most recently, he and his partner, Rhonda Duhamel, invested in Manchester’s downtown vitality by opening Bravo, a new café and fine-dining experience on Hanover Street, and by partnering with the Palace Theatre to help establish the new Singer Center for the Arts.
