MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester Police detectives are following up on two separate incidents Tuesday night that may be connected, involving an attempted robbery and theft at two different Elm Street businesses 10 minutes apart.
The first incident occurred Jan. 26 at Subway, 997 Elm Street at 7:40 p.m. The second incident occurred 10 minutes later at Rite Aid, 1631 Elm Street.
A white male walked into Subway at 7:40 p.m. and allegedly demanded cash from the clerk at the register. The robber did not show a weapon, but the clerk noticed he kept one hand in his pocket, which led her to believe he may have been armed with an unknown weapon. The victim, a 45-year-old woman from Derry, refused to give him cash, so he left the store empty-handed.
The clerk said he was in his early 20s, about 5-foot-8-inches tall, with facial hair on his chin. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and an baseball cap, color unknown.
The second incident occurred approximately 10 minutes later at Rite Aid, when a white male walked up to an unmanned register and opened the cash drawer. He was able to remove an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving the store.
The robber was described as approximately 5-foot-8 inches tall, unknown build, last seen wearing a black baseball hat, black sweatshirt, brown pants and black shoes. Detectives are actively investigating the two incidents to determine if they are related.
