Bill Barry: Ward 10 Alderman candidate

Why should someone vote for you?

I have a proven record of strong constituent service. Since 2014 I have had over 70 streets reconstructed and paved in Ward 10. I have answered thousands of phone calls and emails of concerns from the residents of Ward 10 as well as throughout the city. I get results.

If re-elected, what steps would you endorse to address the issue of homelessness in the city?

Homeless individuals are some of the most vulnerable in our city. I have worked very hard to make sure that the individuals that are homeless are offered assistance to help them get back into society and help them achieve a positive future.

If re-elected, what steps would you endorse to address the issue of housing costs?

It is important that we continue to work with our leaders in the housing sector to ensure that we have affordable housing for all. Our city is continuing to grow and itโ€™s important that we do what we can to make our city welcoming to new residents.

If re-elected, what steps would you endorse to address the issue of attracting and retaining quality city employees?

We have some great city employees. I have always had a very good relationship with them and I will continue to support them in the future. We need to do whatever we can to attract people to our work force.

What is your perspective on the city’s roads, transit system and parking? If you believe improvement is needed, how would you accomplish that?

I have worked very hard for the residents of Ward 10 to make sure that our streets are safe. Our transit system has improved significantly over the years and I am very proud of their success.

What is your opinion on the city’s parks, library and entertainment offerings/public events? If improvement is needed, what should be done?

We have some of the best entertainment in the Northeast. The SNHU Arena, Fisher Cats stadium, Rex and Palace theaters have all been very successful and have had a huge impact for our downtown restaurants as well as restaurants throughout our city.

What is your opinion on the city’s policies regarding property taxes and other fees (i.e. – pet licenses, parking meters, etc.)

I have always worked very hard to keep our taxes as low as possible and make sure that all of our residents receive the best city services possible.

What are your thoughts on the city’s business climate and how would you attract more businesses to come to Manchester or convince more people to start businesses in Manchester?

It is important that we continue to work with our economic development partners. They have done a fantastic job soliciting businesses to come to Manchester. I will continue to work closely with them.

What is your opinion of the state of education in Manchester and what should the relationship be between the Board of School Committee and Board of Mayor and Aldermen?

Itโ€™s important that all elected officials work together to make our education system the best that it can be. Our school administration and school board members have done a great job recently and I will continue to work with them on making sure that our children get the best education possible.
