Like most teens in the summer of 1953, Adele Boufford Baker was enjoying her time off from school, much of which was spent swimming with friends on the West Bank of the Merrimack River where her family had a summer home. Adele found the waters a welcome respite from the summer heat. Little did anyone know what dangers those waters carried.
