As an inexperienced 19-year-old kid, just like Gump, everything was new, every event was especially vivid. Some days, like Gump, I just hoped I would make it through the day. Oddly, my biggest fear wasn’t getting killed – my biggest fear in Vietnam was becoming disabled, mentally or physically.”
