Missy Mahoney has been playing women’s football for two years. Prior to joining the NH Rebellion, Mahoney was an ardent flag football player. A regular at every practice, Mahoney most often plays linebacker, though sometimes lines up at tight end. She will turn 38 on April 17.

Kelsey Silva, a resident of Dracut, Mass., has an easy smile no matter which position she is playing in for the New Hampshire Rebellion. Thus far, she has played at tackle, guard, tight end, fullback, wide receiver, and linebacker. Although she stands at little more than 5 feet tall, Silva, 23, has nevertheless found a way to utilize her strength to overpower larger opponents.

Yet, despite her size, she is in many ways an anchor for the offense; a steady, reliable person who ensures the first action of any offensive play goes smoothly.

Soon after the New Year came around in 2024, Republican lawmakers in the New Hampshire state government submitted a series of bills aimed at fundamentally ending all legal recognition of any kind for transgender individuals. Bills submitted this year echo those submitted last year, which were part of a nationwide effort to deny transgender people access to medical care, use of public restrooms, and disallowing playing on sports teams that conform with their gender identity, among others.

People started gathering around the First Baptist Church on Union Street on a Saturday morning for a yearly event that had become a local tradition. Members of the New Hampshire Rebellion, a female football team with a home stadium in Manchester, gathered at their regular practice field in Tyngsborough, Mass., this past Saturday for the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) National Open Tryout Day. Fresh and familiar faces were in attendance. Absent from the field were ducks and turkeys that sometimes wander in from a nearby forest.

While rain continues to fall in July, the Merrimack River continues to rise. The National Weather Service predicts the river will come within 0.4 inches of minor flooding on Monday night at 8 p.m. The last time the Merrimack crested so high was in 2010  when it reached 11.60 feet in Manchester. Predictions so far have the river coming just short of that total.

The Winchell Room in the Manchester City Library on Pine Street, usually reserved for book sales and other functions, has found a new usage: feeding hungry children. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12  to 12:30 p.m. parents are invited to bring their children to the Winchell Room on the library’s bottom floor to receive a free meal for a child. No proof of residency or proof of income is required.

Mothers and their families gathered in Livingston Park at the flag football field for an event to promote maternal health, raise awareness for postpartum depression, and raise money for Postpartum Support International. Attendees began by taking a walk on the nature trail next to Dorrs Pond, then came back to congregate and share their stories with one another.

The Mayhem scored early and often in what would turn out to be a one-sided affair. They jumped up by 19-0 at the end of the first quarter. They would add on another touchdown to increase their lead to 25 at halftime. The final score ended up being Maine Mayhem 45, New Hampshire Rebellion 0.
