Candia man charged with arson for Friday fire

CANDIA, NHย โ€“ New Hampshire State Fire Marshal J.William Degnan, Candia Police Chief Michael McGillen, and Candia Fire Chief Dean Young announce that an arrest has been made in connection with a fire that occurred on February 19 at a residence on Hook Road in Candia.

As a result of the joint investigation, Stephen Gracyalny, 59, of Candiaย was arrested on February 20 on one felony-level charge of arson.

He is currently being held at the Rockingham County House of Corrections in lieu of $50,000 cash-only bail. A video arraignment is scheduled for Monday February 22, 2016 at 8 a.m.ย The location has not yet been determined.

The investigation remains ongoing by members of the NH State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office and the Candia Police Department.

Fire Marshal Degnan would like to remind our citizens that arson is not a victimless crime, and that anyย intentionally-set fire puts in motion a series of events that significantly jeopardizesย the safety ofย both the public and our first responders.

Intentionally set fires nationwide cause more than 400 deaths, 1,300 injuries, and $1.3 billion dollars in direct property damage annually.
