NASHUA, NH โ€” Fortin Gage Flower and Gift Shop is bringing actor Gerald Dickens, great-great-grandson of author Charles Dickens, back to Nashua for his only tour date in New Hampshire this year. Dickens will perform two shows in Nashua on Friday, December 6, 2019. โ€˜Mr. Dickens is Comingโ€™ will take place at the Nashua Senior Center at 12:30 p.m. And the beloved Dickens classic, โ€˜A Christmas Carol,โ€™ will be performed at Nashua Community College at 7 p.m.

Fortin Gage has hosted Dickens, who travels to the U.S. each year from Oxford, England, since 2009 for his one-of-a-kind performances of โ€œA Christmas Carolโ€™ and other Dickensโ€™ classics. The tour is produced by Byersโ€™ Choice Ltd., makers of the well-known Carolersยฎ and Kindlesยฎ figurines, located in Chalfont, PA. Fortin Gage has been carrying the Byersโ€™ Carolers for decades in their Downtown Nashua shop.

According to Jody Gage, owner of Fortin Gage, โ€œGerald Dickensโ€™ adaptation of โ€˜A Christmas Carolโ€™ has become a favorite holiday tradition for customers at Fortin Gage over the past decade. The show is not a play and is not a reading … but a fantastic performance where Gerald tells the story written by his great-great-grandfather, Charles, as only a Dickens can. He leaps, sobs, and laughs, bringing all 26 characters of the story to life. Itโ€™s truly an amazing performance.โ€

The NH Dickens Carolers will sing Victorian Carols at ‘A Christmas Carol’ with Gerald Dickens

In addition to Dickensโ€™ popular performance of โ€˜A Christmas Carolโ€™, heโ€™s also performing โ€˜Mr. Dickens is Comingโ€™ during this yearโ€™s visit to Nashua. This show shines a light-hearted and varied look at the life of Charles Dickens as seen through the lens of his colorful literary characters.

The Nashua Senior Center and Nashua Police Athletic Leagueโ€™s (PAL) Tactical Christmas project will both receive portion of ticket sales proceeds from Fortin Gage this year. Additionally, a gift drive for Nashua PAL will take place at both performances. โ€œThis act of giving back to our community is also part of our annual holiday tradition with Dickensโ€™ visits,โ€ Gage said.

Tickets for both shows can be ordered online or at the Fortin Gage Flower and Gift Shop at 86 West Pearl Street in Downtown Nashua, NH. For more information call: 603-882-3371.

Gerald Dickens Biography
Gerald Dickens bears more than a passing resemblance to his famous ancestor, who originally toured the U.S. in 1867 reading his literary works before spellbound audiences. The historians report that A Christmas Carol was his favorite piece to perform. According to Gerald, his great-great-grandfather adored theater and initially wanted to be an actor but pursued writing as a career for practical purposes. For many years Gerald says that he himself โ€œavoided anything to do with Dickens like the plague.โ€ But in 1993 when a friend asked him to do a reading of โ€˜A Christmas Carolโ€™ on its 150th anniversary of publication to help raise money for a historical restoration project, he couldnโ€™t turn him down. To his surprise, he enjoyed doing it and has been delighting audiences around the world with his rendition ever since.
