The Christmas vibe was strong last Thursday at Laundry Lake laundromat – for two hours families were welcomed into the laundromat where there were tables filled with toys and games. It was part of a community collaboration between Domenic Marte of Latino Vibe 94.9 FM radio station and Laundry Lake owner Rafael Lora – the first of what both men hope will be many more community gatherings to come in the new year.

I love the Christmas season! I love Christmas! As a follower of Jesus, I celebrate His birth as well as the Hope that He brings to our crazy world, but I also recognize that Christmas has become more of a cultural and commercial holiday. I myself celebrate Christmas in part by buying gifts, attending plays and celebrations, and watching movies, (including those that have the “magic of Christmas”). I just stay grounded and keep Jesus at the center of everything that I do around the holiday – I remember it is really about His birth.

“We never dreamed that one year later we would go back at that same safe house and there were those same children,” Susn Mathison said. “While it was wonderful to see them again and be welcomed like friends, it was awful to think that these 4-to-16-year-old kids had spent the last year basically in hiding and wondering how life was at home.”
