How these West Merrimack St. neighbors built an annual street party for all.
MANCHESTER, NH โย More than 1,000 “neighbors” gathered Sunday for what has become an annual tradition – Merrymaking on W. Merrimack brings together food, fun, music, vendors and a real sense of community to a small but mighty city block.
We caught up with the organizers (see video above) to find out a bit more about what goes into the holiday block party which, this year, doubled in size from last year, according to one of the organizers, Amy Chhom. What started with a $10,000 community grant has resulted in an annual fund-raising blitz that this year brought in more than $20,000.
Stand-alone heaters provided some respite from the cold, but for most people, the warmth of the many friends and neighbors who gathered was more than enough to keep them around for live entertainment, several food trucks and holiday craft vendors.
Planning for next year’s block party starts now. Anyone interested in helping to plan or sponsor can contact merrymakingmht@gmail.com.
