Man faces maximum of 20 years in prison for intention to sell fentanyl

CONCORD, NH โ€“ Luis Nieves, 33, of Haverhill, Mass., pleaded guilty in the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire on Dec. 2 to one count of possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute it.

On June 24, 2015, Nieves was arrested while attempting to deliver more than two kilograms of the narcotic controlled drug fentanyl to a purchaser in Manchester. According to the plea agreement, Nieves is responsible for at least 4 kilograms but less than 12 kilograms of fentanyl.

Nieves is scheduled for sentencing on March 7, 2016. He is facing a maximum statutory sentence of 20 years in prison and criminal fines of up to $1,000,000.

This prosecution arose from an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Manchester Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Georgiana L. Konesky.
