Driver with bad inspection faces drug charge after officer gets whiff of pot

MANCHESTER, NH โ€“ A city man who was pulled over for a bad inspection sticker was arrested for possession of marijuana, after the officer who pulled him over caught a whiff of “fresh marijuana” coming from his car.

Manchester Officer Andre Smith of the Patrol Division saw Joshua Lessard operating his vehicle in the area of Auburn and Lincoln streets with a bad inspection sticker at about 2 p.m. on Feb. 4, so he pulled him over.

According to the police affidavit, Officer Smith said he immediately noticed a โ€œvery strong distinct odor of fresh marijuanaโ€ as he approached Lessard’s car. He questioned Lessard,ย who allegedly retrieved approximately 22 grams of marijuana (slightly less than 1 ounce), from the back seat of his car.

Lessardย was taken into custody without incident and charged with possession of a controlled drug.
