How Long Have You Lived in Manchester? 28 years
Hobbies/Fun Fact about you/other biographical info:
Camping, Canoeing.
Why should someone vote for you?
I am experienced as an alderman so I won’t have a learning curve. Also, I provide excellent constituent services by answering every phone call and email that I receive. I have personally been to every street and residence in our ward.
If re-elected, what steps would you endorse to address the issue of homelessness in the city?
Manchester needs a new homeless shelter. I support moving it from ward 7 to the proposed new location.
If re-elected, what steps would you endorse to address the issue of housing costs?
I support the new zoning ordinance that promotes more housing.
If re-elected, what steps would you endorse to address the issue of attracting and retaining quality city employees?
I supported the new compensation study for city employees that makes Manchester more attractive to potential city employees.
What is your perspective on the city’s roads, transit system and parking? If you believe improvement is needed, how would you accomplish that?
Our roads always need attention – it is just a question on how much we want to spend. I think our transit system is good. Finally, as we build more housing we will need to require more parking to go along with the new housing so we don’t make the parking situation worse.
What is your opinion on the city’s parks, library and entertainment offerings/public events? If improvement is needed, what should be done?
I think Manchester has much to offer and that is why so many people from other communities and other states visit Manchester.
What is your opinion on the city’s policies regarding property taxes and other fees (i.e. – pet licenses, parking meters, etc.)
Taxes and fees are a necessary cost of paying for city services but need to be kept affordable for the average taxpayer. I think I have shown good judgment in striking a balance between spending and not increasing taxes too much.
What are your thoughts on the city’s business climate and how would you attract more businesses to come to Manchester or convince more people to start businesses in Manchester?
Manchester has had a reputation of being a difficult place to do business in the past. One of the things we need to more of is to shepherd new businesses through the process when they show interest in starting a business in the city.
What is your opinion of the state of education in Manchester and what should the relationship be between the Board of School Committee and Board of Mayor and Aldermen?
Spending has increased dramatically while enrollment has gone down significantly. Unfortunately, the district still struggles as shown by our test scores. Personally, I think the district should go back to being a department of the city.
