MANCHESTER, NHย  – Manchester Fire dispatch received several calls for a building fire at 103 Brook Street Monday.

RELATED STORY โ‡’ Oct. 2014: Early morning fire forces evacuation at 103 Brook St.

At approximately 4:05 p.m. companies were dispatched to the residence, a three-story multifamily dwelling. Arriving units reported heavy smoke and fire on the southwest side of the building on the third floor.

Lines were deployed to the third floor and companies performed firefighting operations. The building was searched and all occupants were out of the building. Fire spread rapidly through the attic space and burned through the roof. A second alarm was called. Fire crews were eventually evacuated from the building due to the heavy fire load and defensive operations commenced.

A third alarm was called for manpower concerns. Crews reentered the structure and began extinguishing the fire on the third floor and attic. The fire was contained to the third floor and attic while smoke and water damage affected the first and second floors of the five-unit structure. Nine people, along with their pets were displaced from the uninhabitable dwelling. The fire was caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials and classified as accidental.

The Brook Street fire was the third working fire Monday. Prior to this fire crews responded to a working fire on Stone Lane and a working garage fire on Lake Ave. While crews were at the scene on Brook Street several mutual aid towns responded to a fire under the Queen City Bridge. Manchester also responded to a potential water rescue using boats Monday afternoon.
