MANCHESTER, NH — Police have positively identified a body found in a clearing near a lightly wooded area behind apartments at 82 Karatzas Ave. as Clay Whitfield, 57, who was reported missing earlier this month.

Mr. Whitfield, who lived in the apartments nearby, was reported missing by his mother in early March. She told police she had not seen her son since February 27, 2018.

Mr. Whitfield struggled with mental health issues over the years. His mother told police that he was known to go off for short periods of time, but she became concerned when he was out of touch for an extended period of time.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
