Howe Street kitchen fire brought quickly under control

MANCHESTER, NH – At 8:49 p.m. Wednesday night fire companies responded to 857 Howe St. for a  reported fire in the building. First arriving engine and truck from the Somerville Street Station found smoke showing from the single-family ranch. Companies quickly controlled and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading beyond the kitchen. The  home sustained smoke damage throughout, with heavy damage to the kitchen area. 

Six adults and four children were able to exit the home escaping injuries. Working smoke detectors played a crucial role in alerting residents, buying  them vital time to exit the structure. 

  • Civilian Injuries: No reported injuries. 
  • Emergency Service Injuries: No reported injuries.  
  • Special Circumstances: The early notification and close proximity of the home to the  Somerville Street Station allowed companies to arrive on scene quickly to contain and  extinguish the fire.  
  • Fire Cause: Under investigation 
  • Estimated Dollar Loss: $30,000
