MANCHESTER, NH – At 8:49 p.m. Wednesday night fire companies responded to 857 Howe St. for a reported fire in the building. First arriving engine and truck from the Somerville Street Station found smoke showing from the single-family ranch. Companies quickly controlled and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading beyond the kitchen. The home sustained smoke damage throughout, with heavy damage to the kitchen area.
Six adults and four children were able to exit the home escaping injuries. Working smoke detectors played a crucial role in alerting residents, buying them vital time to exit the structure.
