New Hampshire officials are attempting to upgrade the state’s therapeutic cannabis registry – and they’re seeking input from those in the industry on how best to do it.
The Senate House Ways and Means Committee took up HB1598 on Wednesday and looked at the proposal brought to the legislature for a state-run liquor store model to sell adult-use cannabis by Rep. Daryl Abbas, R-Salem.
The “Live Free or Die” state is still dragging its feet on legalizing recreational cannabis. However, the 2022 legislative session offers something seldom seen, a legalization bill with the potential to pass. HB1598, legalizing the possession and use of cannabis, is a beacon of hope for many Granite Staters.
The House Thursday approved a bill legalizing recreational cannabis that would be sold through a state retail monopoly similar to the state’s liquor business.
“This bill does not go far enough to protect the health of children,” said the organization’s lobbyist Kate Frey. “There may be no marketing or advertising, but there is no limit on sales or the type or products.”
So-called ‘Right to Work’ legislation went down in the state Senate Thursday, while they agreed to permit qualified patients and their caregivers the right to grow their own cannabis and gave seniors an automatic drop in Medicare premiums if they become available.
There will be no action taken in the Senate this session on a bill to legalize, tax and regulate recreational marijuana after the Senate voted Thursday to re-refer marijuana legalization legislation to committee.
Legalizing marijuana “is all about the money,” opponents insist, while those in favor said a bill now advancing in the legislature is about ending a failed, 85-year policy on pot prohibition.
Delta 8 -THC is the “regular” THC found in cannabis but is formulated differently. It has electrons in a different position than those in Delta 9 – THC allowing the product to interact with body receptors providing slightly different results.
By a close vote of 10 to 9, the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee gave a thumbs up to House Bill 481 that would legalize the use of marijuana for people aged 21 and older.
