March came in like a lamb with my first grocery shopping trip of the month, but all signs point to it going out a like a lion. Economy disruptions caused by the war in Iran, which are already being seen, will likely have a big impact in the weeks to come. Add to that continuing tariff craziness and just plain old changing of seasons, and things are poised to get crazier, price-wise.
Thursday marked one year since my first Grocery Snapshot shopping trip. It came right after President Trump announced his plan for across-the-board tariffs. I made a handful of purchases of things I usually bought that I thought could be affected by tariffs, as well as some that may not be, and figured we’d track them for a year to see how, or if, the prices changed.
So, that means a lot of price increases this month for those store brands that dropped in December. In fact, 11 of the 26 items on the grocery snapshot list cost more than they did last month.
It’s here, people. Hershey’s told us in July that this fall the price of its chocolate products would increase by double digits. They weren’t kidding.
