My husband and I were driving down Bremer Street in Manchester when I noticed a small fire on a third floor porch, so I stopped our car and told my husband to run up and pound on the tenants’ doors to alert the tenants of the fire, which was getting bigger by the minute while I honked the horn frantically outside!
I then dialed 911 and alerted them of the fire, as soon as they confirmed that firemen were on their way I ran upstairs to join my husband in trying to alert these people of the fire.
My husband was pounding on the third-floor door and I was pounding on the first. The man from the third floor yelled from inside the apartment, “What are you talking about!?” My husband and I were screaming “Fire! Fire!” I believe the guy from the third floor couldn’t make out what my husband was screaming, so I’m guessing that’s why he said that, (my husband speaks with a thick accent) so my husband ran back downstairs towards me and I said, “just go honk the horn again! I’ll keep trying!” I kept screaming “Fire!” Fire! Open the door!” And right then the gentleman from the first floor opened up and I told him, “Hurry! There’s a fire! You have to get out!”
He then told me, “What about the guy in the second floor? Did you get him? He has a breathing machine!” I said, “No! I’ll run up! You just get out! Go!” So I ran up to the second floor and started pounding on that door screaming even louder to open the door, and “Fire! Fire!” as I kept pounding. Thats when the guy from the third floor opened the door and the smoke alarms started going off! Finally! And the guy screamed, “oh s#!%! Fire! There’s a Fire!!!” And I said, “Yes! Fire! Go! Go!” That’s when I decided, oh gosh, I have to try to get some of this on camera!
So I turned my cell phone cam on and pounded on the door a couple more times and with no response, saw that the fire was getting out of control, decided to try and get out myself and that’s what you will witness here in this video… this is one of three short clips we recorded that morning.
