MANCHESTER, NH – Eugenio Colon Nieves, 30, no fixed address was charged with five counts of second-degree assault and one count of attempted second-degree assault after an early morning altercation Wednesday at a Cedar Street apartment.
Patrol officers responded to 271 Cedar St on March 16, 2016 at 12:20 a.m. for a reported assault involving a box cutter and a 2-by-4. Responding officers spoke with several victim’s inside of the Cedar Street apartment.
The first victim, Tabitha Shanmugam, 30, of Manchester, told police Nieves entered her home and began assaulting her. She said Colon Nieves knocked on her door, and she allowed him into her apartment because she was familiar with him. She and Colon Nieves engaged in an argument that escalated when Nieves allegedly pulled out a box cutter and began attacking her. He also allegedly placed an extension cord around Shanmugam’s neck and attempted to strangle her, but she was able to fight off the assault. She was stabbed in the thumb during the incident. She refused medical treatment on scene.
Shanmugam’s husband, Prabakaran Shanmugam, 29, attempted to come to her aid, but Colon Nieves allegedly struck him in the head with a 2-by-4 before he could subdue him. Prabakaran Shanmugam was allegedly knocked to the ground, so several others inside of the apartment came to his wife’s aid. David Seichepine, 43, of Hooksett, and Randy Dorr, 45, no fixed address, were also struck in the head with the 2-by-4 while attempting to stop the attack.
Colon Nieves fled the apartment before police arrived. He was arrested March 16 in the area of Cedar and Union streets by members of the Special Enforcement Division. He was charged with five counts of second-degree assault and one count of attempted second-degree assault. He was scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on March 17, 2016.
