Last Friday West High School football coach Andrew Provencher saw to it that the small group of volunteers at the food pantry got some helping hands. When Provencher learned that the pantry had been inundated with requests for food – increasing the number of deliveries from the Food Bank and the number of trips up and down the pantry steps to drop the thousands of pounds of food earmarked for the community, he enlisted the help of some of his players, as well has his family.

The New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire, is intensifying its fundraising efforts to address the anticipated statewide rise in food insecurity as the federal government shutdown persists. With the shutdown directly impacting funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a federal program providing monthly benefits to households to help them purchase food, the New Hampshire Food Bank is amplifying both its fundraising and its programming to ensure families and individuals have access to the food and resources they need. The New Hampshire Food Bank has already increased food distribution by 26% year-over-year to meet the growing demand.

Chef Paul Comes, a seasoned wild game chef, led the kitchen operations with the help of Comcast Team UP volunteers, who helped with meal prep and dinner service as well.  The meal featured venison tacos, demonstrating that wild game venison can be a nutritious, kid-friendly and nutritious option.
