As the budget season for Fiscal Year 2026 begins to come into focus, a memorandum of understanding between the Manchester School District and the City of Manchester for an independent efficiency audit was recommended by the Manchester Board of School Committee’s Finance Committee on Wednesday night, part of a larger initiative by Manchester Mayor Jay Ruais to proactively find budgetary efficiencies in local government budgets.

Bringing back the death penalty is not justice, it’s the ultimate form of slavery. It is inhumane to believe that taking another life restores safety or peace. The New Hampshire legislature repealed the death penalty in 2019 by a bipartisan, two-thirds majority. Since then, there has been no rise in homicide. In fact, New Hampshire has the lowest homicide rate in the nation.

McCormick, 72, applied for the elderly tax exemption last year and has saved over $1,000 on her tax bill. She said the exemption has “most definitely” been helpful, but she and many of her neighbors believe the exemption’s requirements are difficult to meet.

vThe Manchester Historic Association (MHA) is pleased to announce that it has selected five honorees for its 2026 Historic Preservation Awards, including awards to the new Queen City Center project on Canal Street and the Brookside Congregational Church for their care of the 1908 neo-Classical Manning house.    A new category this year is the Mid-Century Design Award, being presented to Doctors Park at Elliot Hospital for its well-preserved mid-century modern architecture.
