Like a prepubescent moth falling in love with an illuminated bulb, I knew—in the marrow of my bones—that I’d found my calling with my Nintendo. But it wasn’t until my parents purchased “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out” for my 12th birthday[3] that I would actualize my role in the universe.
In April of 2002, Green Bean Press, a small independent publisher in New York City[1], released my first full-length book—a collection of interrelated short stories titled “Frostbite.” I can look back at “Frostbite” now, two decades later, and say, with the objectivity that age affords, that the book had no business seeing the light of day.

After a week of Earth Awareness at the Portsmouth, Oyster River, and Dover High Schools, join us in honoring the Earth, appreciating our accomplishments, and calling for more action! We will be hearing from local students and prominent legislators on the successes and failures of our response to rising global temperatures.
There are some people who want to stop this. I am hopeful that someone will step up and possibly run against them in November. As of yet, I haven’t heard a peep out of anyone willing to do that.

She doesn’t wait for permission to get dirty on trips such as this anymore because she understands that getting dirty is why we’re here. In my day pack, I carry a packet of wet wipes, a towel and an extra pair of socks for both of us. My wife and I have raised our daughter to accept the natural world not as a brief interlude or vacation, not as something that is special and happens occasionally, but rather as a part of everyday living. And life can be messy. Therefore, nature is messy – and never so messy than during mud season.
It’s said that from all things awkward or uncomfortable, messy or less than pleasant comes the fruit, the light and the wonderful.
