The thing is, I know my story is not unique. Thousands of young, hard-working Granite Staters are struggling to find their place in our community. If New Hampshire really cares about making our state hospitable to its young people, then we need to act now to pass laws and enact policies that will make our state more accessible to my generation and the next.

I have good news – for me, for my family, and anyone else I run into in the coming year! I received vaccine shot No. 2 and I don’t have four legs or 5G pumping through my veins. I was kind of hoping for the X-ray vision and flying powers but nonetheless, I still have my above-average human capabilities and will continue to be safe within my community!!

We also appreciate that Mayor Craig acknowledges “housing as a fundamental human right,” which is the core value of our housing alliance. While this acknowledgment is vital, we must take meaningful steps to make that right available to all. Slogans are nice but are meaningless without action. We face a time when developers and landlords are taking advantage of a tight market to profit off of what we deem to be a human right.

We are approaching our next event on Thursday, April 22 at  7 p.m. Felon to Freeman, “How to be an ally.” Like our event last month, we are looking to make this one just as impactful and monumental. We have a panel that includes the American Friends Service Committee (A.F.S.C), Rights and Democracy (R.A.D), Upper Valley, Showing Up for Racial Justice (S.U.R.J) and New Hampshire State Rep., Nicole Klein Knight.

We know for this country to live up to its promise of a multiracial democracy where Black, Brown and White communities can thrive together, we are going to have to talk together about racial justice, gender justice and what justice for all really means, in particular within government. Against the wishes of the majority of Americans and its employees, some don’t want those conversations to happen.
