After watching the sad and utterly predictable acquittal of former-President Donald J. Trump by the 43 GOP sycophants in the Senate, I needed to step back from the television and take a breath. I sensed John McCain rolling in his grave…

Is it because he is too perfect? A football legend in his own time, he is also movie-star handsome and married to a supermodel. Until this year, he played for the winningest team in football history. Then in his first year with the Tampa team, he has made them the Super Bowl champs. The guy defines what it means to be a winner.

After the state of New Hampshire cruelly evicted a homeless encampment on the Chestnut Street courthouse Lawn back in November, I thought the City of Manchester was an ally in the fight for our homeless community. After residents of the Amoskeag Bridge encampment were given less than 24 hours to vacate their property yesterday, I question that notion.

When I arrived in Sin City—I can still remember the illumination on the desert horizon, like a synthetic sunrise, while driving into the Vegas lights from I-15 at night—I discovered that the high school where I would be teaching English had roughly the same number of students as Plymouth State, where I had completed my undergraduate degree six months earlier.

Encountering Murphy’s Law a few times every week for weeks on end wears both patience and stamina. When I bought my RV, I trusted the seller was telling the truth when they said it “ran like a champ.” That turned out to be false. Now it only runs with a clamp holding down a battery connector in the engine. The windshield is broken, and the exhaust pipe underneath has rusted apart to the point where it looks like it might have exploded. Had the seller described the vehicle as “for parts” or “needs repair,” I would have not bought it.

By not vaccinating teachers, the Governor is also prolonging the challenges our economy is facing. If small business owners and employees have to watch their kids at home because schools are closed, their businesses have to remain closed, too. By vaccinating teachers in the first phase, we can ensure that our schools stay open, which will keep businesses open, support New Hampshire’s workforce, and jumpstart the economy.

Continuing our explorations in the Lakes Region, we headed to Rochester.  In addition to seeing all the roadside historical markers, we were also taking part in the Five Hikes Challenge sponsored by the  Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. One of the hikes was in Champlin Forest in Rochester. It was nice to take a peaceful walk in the woods, followed by a socially distanced visit with friends, in between drives to markers.
