Ever since Hope for Recovery Manchester moved into its spectacular new quarters at the old Hoitt Furniture building at the corner of Valley and Wilson I have been taking people downtown to the Market Basket because I had a car and it was too cold to walk that far.
Small Business Saturday is very important to the economic growth of Manchester going forward. Besides just new restaurants opening up, many more retails spots are being built which will add more variety to ever evolving downtown area.

These boys finished their season 7-0 no team has beat them. They went on to win the State Championship and further to the regional semi-finals this past Sunday where they beat the Connecticut state champs. This Sunday they take on a team from Worchester Massachusetts to clinch the Regional Championship! IF they win this Sunday, the boys are heading to Florida to defend their national championship title.
Every two years, the citizens of Manchester elect their representatives to the mayor’s office and to the aldermanic and school boards. Parents, teachers, taxpayers and students should be made aware when the superintendent’s contract is going to be discussed and should have an opportunity to weigh in.
States are hiring consulting firms to turnaround low performing schools and less than 5 percent of those firms have actually demonstrated that they have ever successfully done the work.

The institutions that employ these nice people, however, are perfectly okay with a state that ranks a dismal 21st among the 51 states (and the District of Columbia) when it comes to energy efficiency. The ranking is from the highly respected American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. It means that New Hampshire is dead last among states in the northeast above the Mason-Dixon Line. This is unacceptable.

When someone says that the downtown music scene is “deficient” and that the take over of the Rex by the Palace should be viewed as a rescue mission, I not only find that offensive, I see it as giving the Palace Theater a pass for failing the music community in Manchester for years now.
We have made it our home for many reasons and I hope you will consider making it your home, too.
The Granite State’s disappointing record when it comes to energy efficiency becomes downright outrageous when you consider that we lag behind every other New England state. You literally have to go south of the Mason-Dixon Line to find a state with a worse ranking than ours.
“But I also believe the way people treat animals is a reflection on how they treat human beings. It makes it hard to be compassionate for one another if we can’t feel compassion for animals that are helpless.”
Unintended consequences with constitutional language are, however, significantly more problematic to correct if they aren’t realized until after ratification. Equally important is our duty to keep our constitution up-to-date with the changing times, as the new century is already presenting new challenges. No matter how you vote on these ballot questions – please be careful.
