MANCHESTER, NH – At approximately 2:44 p.m., dispatch received a call for smoke in the  building at 70 West River Dr. Companies were dispatched and reported heavy smoke coming  from the second floor of a garden style apartment complex with 40 units occupied.

Engine 5  made an aggressive attack to the second floor and made entry into the fire apartment. Both  Truck companies and Rescue 1 pushed through the building clearing apartments throughout  the building. The fire was quickly extinguished, but completely gutted one of the apartments.

Because of the enormous size of the building crews moved quickly to clear the building and  manpower was stretched thin. Due to the aggressive attack on the fire and quick overhaul, the  fire was contained to the apartment of origin. Crews cleared smoke from the building and  checked carbon monoxide levels before turning the building over to management. The loss stop was announced at 3:46 p.m.
