MANCHESTER, NH โ€“ A firefighter was injured in a Wednesday night fire on Concord Street, and two trapped dogs were carried safelyย from the second floor of the building.

Firefighters responded to 266 Concord St. at about 7:40 p.m. on May 6ย to put out the blaze that gutted the third floor of a three-story four-unit apartment house.

Fire companies arrived and did aย search for victims, but found all occupants had already evacuated.ย

Despite the close proximity of other homes on Concord Street, no other buildings were damaged, fire officials said.

A family of five was displaced by the fire. Two dogs found in a second-floor apartment were rescuedย safely by firefighters, and neither of them suffered any injuries.ย

One firefighter suffered injuries and was taken to Catholic Medical Center for treatment.ย District Chief Michael Gamache said the firefighter was treated for cardiac issues and was released from the hospital around midnight, and should fully recover.

Preliminary investigation indicated the fire was accidental and caused byย careless disposal of smoking material. Fire officials estimated the damages were approximately $25,000.
